I don't think so as the heat comes from the bottom only. With a slow cooker the whole things heats up.
I would say no. A casserole in the oven for a few hours is more like a slow cooker.
It's hard IMO to get the light low enough, so the liquid evaporates and you have to keep an eye on it. I wouldn't go out and leave a pan on the stove but would go out and leave mt slow cooker going. It is more like casseroling in an oven but cheaper to run.

i would casserole with tin foil over the pot and then the lid - with the oven on s or 1/4
i used to leave pot in oven on low all day before i got slow cooker.
i would do what crisgal would do only I would put my casserole with foil over the top of it andput the lid on in the oven for half an hour on the 200deg C then turn it down to the s setting, this way you can leave it safely for up to 6/8 hours
