MP3 is a generic name, Ipod is made by Apple
Ipod is a brand name, like chazza sed made my apple and mp3 is the name of the files most commonly stored and played on such players. there are other makes such as iriver and zen, these are also brands. because the ipod is so popular people fail to realise that its not different to an mp3 player it is actually an mp3 player.
Its a brand name thing. These days ipod is to mp3 players what Nokia is to mobile phones just the most advertised / hyped brand. If you want an mp3 player then do some research on the internet. Review sites (amazon is okay for buyer reviews) are the best place to start. The main things to look for in an mp3 player is; the storage capacity and how straightforward it is to use. Sound is not really an issue as that depends on; the bit-rate of the mp3 file a lower bit-rate means smaller file size ( you can fit more mp3 files on your player ) but some sound quality will be lost and the fact that most mp3 players come with cr4p headphones.
Good luck!
