I have a first gen ipod touch, not used it for a while, now the sound only works through the ear phones not without them, any ideas as to why? TIA

iPods don't have external speakers do they? They have to be used with headphones. (I might be wrong)

The 1st gen didn't have speakers, generation 2 onwards has got built in speakers.

The first Gen iPod Touch did not have an external speaker. Docks for playing them are relative inexpensive now.
