Robbing water companies!!!!!!!!
38 Answers
We are on a meter and pay £20 per month. There are only two of us and we try to be frugal with water use.
Meter was read on Thursday and the new bill came today, Saturday and Lo:- we have to pay £30 per month next year.
That's the pension rise for this year taken care of then. Council tax bill for next year still to come. Will it never end?????????

I consider water charges to be very reasonable - £1 a day for all the water I need. And don't forget all your dirty water/ effluent is being taken away, treated and recycled. Very good value.

We're metered, SE but outside of London and pay 31.60 pm
On a meter we were paying £40
Not much of a saving but a saving none the less
It has gone up quite a lot over the last 2 years though
The after we had the meter in when they read it to get a years average usage, we were paying £24 pm, now, 3 years later, we are paying the amount above

With my own experience and others I've come to the conclusion that the water companies just charge whatever they like.
I live on my own and am more than frugal with water but they still wanted £30 a month from me.
I phoned them up and told them I am unwilling to pay more than£20 a month and they actually said,'ok' so this is what I now pay.

Here is a calculator for United Utilities, I put in a random figure of £250 for the year and on a meter with them the bill would have been £440 or some stupid price they seem to be expensive.

My wife and I are with Thames Water. We are not on a meter and we pay £290 for the year. We have a three-bed house and use as much water as we like. We don't really notice the bill.
From this thread and several others it seems as if water charges vary drastically around the country. I used to live in Grimsby and they fitted a water meter to everyone while I was there. My bill doubled, even though I lived alone and cut down as much as I could. The bills of many people I knew there trebled and quadrupled!

You need to look at the volume of water being used. Generally ppl are always better off on a meter unless they use a. LOT of water. So it is impossible to judge on the amount of a bill unless you know what the volume of water used is.
I live in Cornwall with the highest bills in the country. It is something we have to keep an eye on.
