Tom Waits can write an entire novel in just one line. This is probably my favourite love song by any artist. It's not gushy or sugary - he just tells it like it is.

"Don't you know all my dreams come true
When I'm walking down the street with you"

And the part where the drums stop and he sings "And I call your name, I can't sleep at night" is just sublime.

Thanks for the posts - I had heard of Frank Zappa but had never heard any of his stuff before.

I recently 'discovered' Ry Cooder. Willie Nelson is a current favourite. Alfie Boe is good too.

Although one of my favourites, I'll be the first to admit that Zappa's not to everybody's taste! If you're intrigued, I'd suggest you have a listen to Sheik Yerboutie - if that doesn't do it for you, then you're unlikely to find any of the myriad other albums much to your taste...

I have to admit to being mesmerised by Zappa's nose - is he related to Mr Manilow?
