Extra bracing on roof

A potential buyer had my house surveyed and it stated that the house needs "extra bracing to roof and steel ties to be fixed on gable end walls fixed to roof trusses". Does this mean there is a problem with the strength of the roof and is it likely to be damaged in high winds?
The sale has now fallen through but should I get this work carried out and how much will it cost?
Thanks

Lot of this happening now, Dilly. Surveyors are scuppering so many sales simply by being over-cautious. He's quite right. These things should have been there in the first place, but they could easily be added as condition of any mortgage offer.

Anyway, these items should have been picked up by the original Building Inspector. Roof bracing ................ pieces of 25x100 timber nailed to the underside or the trusses .......... diagonally, longitudinally, at node points etc etc.
Dead easy to fix. Assuming there is decent access, should take one guy a couple of hours.

Gable ends ................ "lateral restraint straps" ............ galvanised steel approx 5x25x1500mm ............... easily nailed to undersides of trusses. Average house, maybe 6 or eight at a gable end. Only one problem....... the "bent" ends should have been built into the gable end as it was being built up. In the roofspace, holes would have to be cut into the gable ......... (in the roofspace) .......... straps inserted, then holes bricked up.
Fiddly in a confined roofspace, but do-able.

Very rough guess ............ one guy might do the bracing and the straps in a couple of days ................... certainly not worth losing a sale over.
Say £500-600

I have seen gable blow over without these in place. I would certainly have it done.
I agree .. Nice post mate. : )
I also agree, I have no idea what it all means but it sounds impressive, it must be right!!
