I have just had a letter through from my vets reminding me that my cats's annual boosters are due. They also say they have a new vaccine that will help give him extra protection against 2 of the more recent strains of cat flu. I know they want to make more money out of people so I'm not sure if its necessary. Its to prevent calicivirus. What do others think?

My cat went for his boosters last week and was given the same as last year - Tricat Trio & Fel V. The vet didn't mention any additional vaccines and the cost was exactly the same as the previous year - £35.84.
mine were done at Christmas - nobody said anything to me, we had the same combination as Ouzel.
It does seem highly infectious http://en.wikipedia.o...ki/Feline_calicivirus
Tricat Trio covers calicivirus anyway

So it seems they are just trying to get more money. Surely not!
tigwig -- bet they are!
tigwig, why don't you ask what your vet what the booster DOES cover eg. is it theTricat Trio as 237SJ said and if doesn't include calicivirus, why not ? Use the £35.84 charge as a guide. My other 'alf had boosters for his 5 cats and they were over £40 each !
When the Vet refers to it as a 'Booster' do they mention their pension fund in the same breath?......................................

I thought not!
Have you ever seen a poor vet?!
No such thing, I don't doubt they care for our pets but I think the new-car/pension fund comes a very close second.
