Above ground swimming pools

We are thinking about getting a large above ground swimming pool (15ft).  What is involved with keeping it clean and hygenic, it has filter pump etc. does this run 24/7? Do you have to put chemicals in, if so how often do you check it etc?  Is is really more hassle than it is worth?

It is hard plastic sides, easy up/down type.
