I have just read about a nurse,Sue Angold, who was sacked and lost her home for the crime of trying to help a 95 year old lady.Another case of health and safety gone mad. There is an online petition if you feel as strongly about this as I do.all the details are on this link.

I agree Ratter, but from the facts given, it might be argued that this was a situation where after careful assessment, the rule might be set aside. BUT What leaps out at me as an incident investigator is why she didn't dial 999 to get the lady back off the floor, what other options she considered regarding washing and changing the lady while she was on the floor, and what assessment she made to ensure that the lady wasn't injured before lifting her. I would also want to know whether she had previous "form" for similar behaviour and what she had on her record regarding incidents in the past.
As I said, big gaps in the story.......
It seems to me that her employers were looking for a reason to sack her, more to this than meets the eye, as Woofgang has said.
usually the case jomifl. I once dealt with a case where on the face of it, an employee was sacked for being 10 minutes late one morning. Reality was years of being late, leaving early, failure to perform job adequately, a list as long as your arm, going back over many years. many warnings, disciplinaries, and a previous dismissal from which the man was reemployed due to a cowardly manager.
NOT SAYING THAT THIS IS THE CASE HERE because I don't know, just giving my take on the facts from my experience.
