Getting book copyright back from publisher

I wrote a book last year and, as is the case with most authors, I had to sign the copyright away as part of the contract with the publisher. The inside cover includes the usual phrase about the author "asserting thie moral rights" to the text.
Does anyone know how I can get the copyright back from the publisher?
The book did not sell well and I have several other openings for it, but only if I can own the copyright myself.
Thanks.

I can only guess what you've no doubt already worked out. If you've given up the copyright - you no longer own it. So you have to contact the owner ofthe copyright and see what their terms are for getting it back.

You could try rewriting the book so you don't use the same phrasing. Ideas cant be copyrighted.

Society of Authors should be able to give advice.

I don't know if what happened to you is standard. My book is coming out yext year and I retain the copyright - and the final proof that I've seen says so.

best of luck
