i am wanting to take a cruise on the indepence of the sea in may and wonder if there would be a lot of children on the ship at that time of the year

Cruises aren't particularly popular with families who've got young children anyway. Most schools won't have any holidays during May this year, because the Late May Bank Holiday has been moved into June (due to the Royal celebrations), meaning that the half-term holiday will be later than usual.

Further, families with young children tend to head to the sunnier parts of the world (even when going on cruise ships). The Independence of the Seas is only doing mini-cruises to Le Havre (for Paris) and Cork in May of this year.

RCI (who own the Independence) are a family based cruise line and have a very professionally run set of schemes to look after kids of all ages. I have cruised many times with RCI (including on the Independence) and for the most part, you will not be aware of the kids. Even on Christmas cruises it hasn't been marred by children. Some people say kids are rude, push in, push all the buttons on the lifts etc, but to be honest in my experience for each child that is a 'pain', there are half a dozen or more that are polite. It is quite usual that if you spot a 'rude' child, its parents are worse(!), but thats life!

Did a Christmas /New Year cruise on the Independence, the problem is not with the Children, but rather the excessive amount of motorised wheelchairs,they are everywhere and the occupants are not very friendly,seem to think they have priority everywhere they go

We went in mid June thinking there would not be many children and there were 600 we were informed officially. also there were loads of motorised wheel chairs and as you say they think they have priority. I have no objection to them normally but on this trip they were a pain.

I cruise with P&O, luckily my favourite ship the Oriana is to become an adults only ship................and I'm considering one of those wheelchairs.
