Copenhagen - Denmark

Anyone been to Copenhagen?  I'm considering going there alone at the beginning of November for a couple of nights.  I often check for European cities and for the dates I want, the flight to Copenhagen is really cheap.

What is there to see?  Rough prices for bars/restaurants?  Must do's/don'ts?  Do the locals speak English or German?

I've seen this thread - http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Travel/Question82768.html but just need a bit more info.

Thanks for any info!

Thanks yet again! Shame I can't buy you a drink next week: I'm really looking forward to my visit there! I just hope that the weather is as good as what it's been down here in Munich!

I'll make sure to let you know how everything went on! :)

Just got back from Copenhagen, thank you so much for the advice, especially kaktus! Want to know what happened?
Yes! I've been looking forward to hearing about the trip!!!

I will be updating my 'online blog - Livejournal' with what went on. When I update it I'll let you know - I'm waiting for a picture host website to work again before I post my photos.

Briefly I spent time in the Old English Pub, Rosie McGee's restaurant, the tram place you mentioned, several hotdogs... *ahem*, and lots and lots of walking, so much I gave myself a blister! I also went on a cruise tour which was great! I think I saw all the 'main sites', though I didn't go inside any.

Oh, and everyone spoke English... thankfully! :) What's your favourite building? How do you cope with everything so expensive? Incidently, are you male or female, and what do people usually do in the evenings?

How did you like the hotdogs? ;0)

Hmm how do I copewith everything being so expensive? I don't know exactly. I guess our wages are probably higher than most places. I'm a student and get something called SU, the state's eduation support which all students over 18 recieve. It's about 450 and then a student loan which is 250 a month. And then I only shop in Netto and Aldi :0) I'v never realised it was that expensive in Denmark, it's a good thing you didn't go to Norway - that is expensive!

It's a tough one to decide what my favourite building is. I love the Round tower because I think it's sweet. The old university building is beautiful, and so is Rosenborg castle. I'll have to think a bit more about this! :0) I'm so glad you went on a cruise tour, I didn't mention it because I thought it was a summer thing and I had totally forgotten about the harbour bus. It's definitely one of the best way to see Copenhagen!

I'm a female kaktus btw :0)

Can't wait to hear more when you up-date the blog!

Well, if I ever go to Copenhagen again I'll have to buy you a drink next time; shame you couldn't have showed me around this time! :)

Okay, here's some of the main sites I saw: I only walked by the Tivoli gardens because it was closed; the townhall; Our Lady's Church; Holy Ghost Church; Christiansborg Palace & Stock Exchange & Holmans Church & National Bank of Denmark (from the canal); St. Nikolaij Church; Charlottenborg; The Reformed Church; Rosenborg Castle & gardens; The Marble Church; Amalienborg Palace; Amaliehaven; The Russian Church; St. Angars Church; The Citadel; St. Alban's Church; The Little Mermaid; Resistance Museum (outside only); Opera House, Royal Danish Navy Museum, Christian's Church (from cruise); Kastellet & Churchill Park.... and I think that's it! :)

I really loved the St. Nikolaj Church, St. Alban's Church (is that the one in Churchill Park?), and the Marble Church the best! The latter probably being my favourite since it is so impressive! :) I was really touched by the Churchill Park & Kastellet, with the monuments to the falledn Danish soldiers during WW2.

Nyhavn is really beautiful too - I really loved the buildings and boats around there.

And yes, the hotdogs were lovely! I had a couple of Francksdog? Can't remember what it's called, but it's the one with the baguette with a hole in the centre with the sausage pushed in. I got served one with bernaise sauce though!!! Yuk! I prefer mustard!!

I didn't let the price of things put me off too much. Luckily I can afford it but if I stayed for much longer then I probably couldn't! :)

The picture hosting website is still down so I'm waitinig for it to come back up before updating my blog! :)

Sct. Alban is the one in Churchill, I actually had to google it, because I only know it as the English Church :0D The marble church indeed is impressive, funny how you stop thinking about it when you see it so often. One my favourite churchs is Holmens, but that is primarily because of my family. My granddad was a navy officer and Holmens is the navy church, so he was married (3 times) in that church, baptised, my mum was baptised and confirmed there, and later he was buried from that church. As I was raised as an atheist, I don't have any connections as such with any of the churches. But Holmens is something special.

Btw I think the Stock Exhange is a funny building, I like to look at it because it seems a bit out of place somehow.

I can understand why you chose the "fransk hotdog" or French Hotdog, they're my favourite. I think the "real" hotdogs is a bit too much :0)

I'll be looking forward to the drinking/tour guide role next time you're in Copenhagen :0)

Have you been in the Old English Bar or Rosie McGee's? The bar was perhaps the nicest looking ones I've been in and Rosie McGee's was really pleasant too - lovely how it was laid out.

I too am not really religious but I do love the chuch architecture.

I must admit I did do a lot of walking and I had to rest a few times, notably near the Little Mermaid and then again in the Rosenborg gardens which were lovely.

The hotel wasn't too bad and the area was okay too - there were a few strange people but I'm used to that in England! :)

And everything I was told about Danish girls was true too! :)

BTW If you ever visit Munich then I can list all the places to visit/tour guide!

Sorry I took such a long time answering!

I've been to Rosie McGee, I can't remember about the English Bar. Rosie's is very nice and dark but it's a long time since I've been there. I've always thought the location was perfect.

And so true about churches, one would be a (insert not very nice word of one choice) if church architacture wasn't appreciated! Some of the most stunning buildings in the world must be churches.

LOL to the strange people! In that area you simply can't be without meeting some stange ones :0D

How about those pictures?

Question Author
Well, the picture host website I help look after still isn't working so I'm seeing if an old host will take the pictures or not! I'll let you know! :)

Finally here!

Hello kebabmeister! Some very good pictures! I think that Copenhagen is the most beautiful city in Scandinavia - I could be biased though...:)
But Norway probably is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, absolutely gorgeous! So you should visit your friend there :0)

I tried to post a comment but it wouldn't let me so here it is instead.
