From 1973 till 1988 singles required 250,00 for Silver 500,00 to go Gold and 1,000,000 for Platinum status but since 1 January 1989 the levels have been set at 200,000 for Silver, 400,000 for Gold and 600,000 for Platinum.

methinks that's in America?? i thought it was 60k for silver, 100k for gold and 300k for platinum in the UK? i might be wrong

ok, done some research...my figures are right for albums, sft's for singles. go to www.bpi.co.uk and click on 'certified awards' from the menu on the left for more info
