My only form of photo identification is my passport .The drawback to this is that it is in my own surname and not the one by which I am generally known - even my driving license is in the 'new' one ( actually have been using it for 25 years). All other official documents are in the new name too. The problem is that if I need to show photo documentation - Flying with cheap airlines for example - will I have to book in my 'old' name? Or have some other form of identification .Id rather not tell travelling companions that my name has changed.

my son now has a different surname to what is on his birth certificate, his name did not have to be changed by deed poll to do this. however his passport is in his 'new' name. the passport office are pretty helpful on the subject, you would need some extra identification in the form of a letter from someone professional, ideally your own doctor etc, that states that this is the name you normally are known by and so on but you can have a passport in the name you are known by and for an extortionate amount of money you can get it pretty quick too.
The new driving licences have photos, if that's any help.
