How many athletes and their supporters are do we predict are going to "miss" their return flight home and disappear into the night? Does the government have any system in place to vet potential athletes? Although Eric the Eel was midly amusing, how many so called athletes are going to compete in events they're useless at as a way to emigrate? (btw. I am not accusing Eric the Eel of illigal immigration, but he was useless)

I believe athletes have to reach a certain minimum standard to even take part in the olympics.

However that does not mean to say that some of the athletes and their hangers-on will disappear into the night after their events (or even before).

In fact some countries are probably selling places as an Olympic "advisor" to the highest bidder so they can come over with the team.

No doubt one of the headlines in the papers nearer the time will be "Nigerian (or wherever) hockey team (or football team) go missing".
and if they did make a run for freedom, some of them Ethiopians will take a bit of catching for sure!!!!
What about all those pesky foreign visitors?
None of them will be attaining any "olympic standards" presumably and there'll be a lot more of them.
What ARE we going to do?
I think refusing to take their money would be the only way to make them feel properly unwelcome, and serve them right.
And maybe give them just a 3 bedroom house instead of a 5 bedroom house! that will get them running home pretty quick!!

Ichkeria, thanks for your sarcastic attempt at an answer, but I really think this a serious issue. How can the government be sure that people aren't going to abuse the British hospitality and remain illegally> What measures will they have in place?
