Sound about right to anybody?

Incidently how is a person who has had his rifle confiscated allowed to walk out with hand grenades?

a killing is not murder until a court says it is. I don't know why the BBC have jumped the gun (so to speak) on this. At present it is just a killing.
Was the victim an innocent 10 year old boy? No....
ummmm

/// Was the victim an innocent 10 year old boy? No.... ///

Do you mean that the 10 year old boy was not innocent?
ummm was talking about the victim of the london killing, which you yourself introduced to this thread rather than answer the OP's question.
jno

Of course I knew that, I was just teasing.

I could have also said, how did ummmm know that the child was innocent, it won't be the first time the cowardly Taliban have used children in their dastardly deeds.

If you read my thread before I introduced the London killings as a comparison, you would have noticed I did answer JTP's question.

You do have to wonder when former Mititary Policemen give interviews like this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/...ctober/11/donal.shtml

"the whole system of military justice is flawed... "

"I feel that I belonged for too long to an organisation that wasn't seeking out the truth"
<I could have also said, how did ummmm know that the child was innocent, it won't be the first time the cowardly Taliban have used children in their dastardly deeds. >

That would be 'the cowardly Taliban' who are guilty then...
What's funny is to see jake going into 'String the bastards up' mode, simply because it's a soldier that's committed the crime, and he hates soldiers.
He'd be trotting out woolly liberal arguments for leniency if it was anyone else.

To be fair, there's a similarly surprising lack of outrage from aog, who's normally up in arms about a stabbing incident.

I don't think there's enough detail to know whether it's a fair sentence or not.
jake hasn't said anything of the sort, ludwig; all he's mentioned (as he will no doubt point out himself) is the sharp contrast between military and civilian justice.
In a few weeks / months, this thread will be cited by AOG as evidence of leftie bias against the military and "our brave boys and girls".

Soldiers are no angels, but they wear the uniform and are representative of our country. Actions such as stabbing a 10 year old serve to foster resentment and hatred of foreign occupiers, and its dificult to believe that they help to win the hearts and minds of the very people we are supposed to be doing.

Quite apart from that - this guy was off his trolley on smuggled in drink, had to be seen by the medics prior to a patrol - What I find difficult to understand is how they felt it was appropriate to send someone in his state out on patrol - especially since they felt he was that bad that his rifle was confiscated! What does that say about teh military administration? This was the Grenadier Guards - does nothing to bolster their reputation.....

So you prefer to take the unsubstantiated evidence of one single Military Policeman as being fact do you?

It sounds very much that this person left the service with a grudge for some reason, other than he didn't like what was going on.

/// In a statement responding to the allegations, the Ministry of Defence denied that there is evidence of systemic failure or interference within the RMP: "The RMP is subject to regular and exhaustive inspection by national bodies such as the Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary. This provides the assurance that the RMP has the capability, capacity and competence to conduct investigations into serious crime. We must also remember that over a hundred thousand of our personnel served in Iraq and, with the exception of a few individuals, they have performed to the highest standards under extraordinarily testing conditions there." ///

I would have thought that the MOD would have a very good reason to take this EX-Military policeman to court over this.

/// To be fair, there's a similarly surprising lack of outrage from aog, who's normally up in arms about a stabbing incident.///

I cannot see how you came to that conclusion, I have already said more than once that I do not condone this stabbing,

What may have brought you to your incorrect conclusion, was the fact that I chose to compare the reaction over this incident, with the lack of reaction over the recent wilful stabbing and throat slitting of a young boy, carried out by a gang of men.
