Should the 'Right-Wing' press be banned?

On AnswerBank, we constantly read insults and criticisms laid firmly at the doors of the 'Right-Wing' press, the Daily Mail especially.

Examples below are taken from a recent thread:

/// Pick up any of the right wing rags at the newsagents ///

/// I will point the finger at papers like the Daily Mail. Their agenda is destructive to the social health of this country. ///

If one is to believe the latter example, then it is more serious than we first thought, and perhaps on this basis alone the paper should be closed down, after all the 'social health of the country' is surely more important than the phone tapping of a few celebrities?

So as to prevent further up-sets on AB, and if we are to believe that anything that is published by these papers is untrue, then perhaps now is the time that all news stories from such sources are banned, and that one should only believe what is written in the 'Left-Wing' publications?

How many apologies has the Daily Mail had to print?

Happy Holidays!!!
Yes, I, for one, am glad that the Daily Mail chose not to brush Mr Hugh Grant's private medical details under the carpet......

/// and selectively read the news, skipping the Tory propaganda, ///

That is a prime example of what I am talking about, if it does not fit in with a certain reader's political leanings, then it is 'propaganda'.

This is a rather bigoted view to take surely?
We live in a free society a democracy so no the right wing press shouldn't be banned any more than a left wing press should.

What would those with extreme views who take thier opinions from the right wing press because they have not enough intelligence to fight their own corner ever do?
is that because he's a 'nasty lefty' AOG!?? It's getting noisy this hypocrasy alarm!

/// They're intent on scaremongering to the extent that it's far more of a threat to the British society than 99.999% of the Muslims / Immigrants / Single parent families it paints to be the threat.///

Is it 'scaremongering' to keep us informed of anti-British activities by certain Muslims?

Is it 'scaremongering' to keep us informed of the how mass immigration is affecting our daily lives?

Is it 'scaremongering' to report on the problems faced by some single parent families, and also the problems some single parent families pose?

I can not in any way, consider this news to be a threat to the majority of British society, although it could more than likely, be a threat to a minority.

It is amazing that some have accused the newspapers of stirring up trouble, and one should sit back and think things out for themselves.

Well the thread headlined 'Woman in court for racist abuse on tram......' has attracted 73 answers so far.

I wonder how many of these were on the tram and witnessed this episode themselves, or how many are going berserk at what they have read in the press?
Wonder where Emma West got her views from? How many more minds have the press twisted to the point of mental illness?
there goes that alarm again!! You think people shouldn't make a comment on what they read in the press? Even if in this instance we've all seen actual live footage of the event taking place!?
Is it 'scaremongering' to keep us informed of anti-British activities by certain Muslims? - Yes, because from their point of view, it's not 'certain' Muslims, it's Muslims

Is it 'scaremongering' to keep us informed of the how mass immigration is affecting our daily lives? - yes, because they only tell us what derogatory effect it may )or may not) be having never backed up by facts and more often backed up by heavily twisted statistics.

Is it 'scaremongering' to report on the problems faced by some single parent families, and also the problems some single parent families pose? - yes, as, again, these are never backed up by facts.
AOG - people on here who have commented on the 'Racist' thread did not need to be riding on the tram concerned, there is a U-Tube link showing what happened - and that gives rise to comment.

I personally believe that a free press is absouitely essential to the democratic process, and naturally that will lead to editorial and reporting bias from all sides of the media - 'twas ever thus.

The sensible approach is to obtain as many views as possible, and hopefully extract some balance from them - but i have to agree with the previous poster who advised that the negative comments about the Mail on here are almost entirely as a response to clips which you post for them to read.

Not an issue - merely an observation.

/// these are never backed up by facts. ///

Oh yes they are, but whether or not the facts are agreeable to you, that is yet another matter.
are they? or are they a slice of the facts that support the agenda, while the rest that kind of goes against the agenda is ignored?
AOG, I ought to remind you that it was you who originally raised the issue of whether the "right wing press" should be banned, although I am sure you were not serious.
Not a single person so far seems to agree with the idea of course, and quite right too.
As I said before though I do wish papers would not publish stories slanted in the fashion they are - the Daily Mail is a prime example, but it's not the only culprit. As others have commented, when you actually read the stories properly, very often by the time you get to the bottom of the page you realise that once you've stripped away the spin and the hype there's precious little information or enlightenment in it at all.
On the other hand, most papers push a particular political if not necessarily a party line, but as long as that is kept mainly separate from the news then that is perfectly OK (though I also wish sometimes that even that could be balanced more). So it's perfectly possible and natural for the person who commented earlier to read the Daily Telegraph's excellent news coverage and deliberately ignore the Tory politics.

So you take every YouTube link as gospel do you Andy, are you a supporter of that old saying 'the camera never lies'?

If only that was true, have you not seen recently camera footage taken of various places of middle eastern unrest, some footage is always introduced by the announcer saying "we cannot corroborate the authenticity of this footage".

/// So it's perfectly possible and natural for the person who commented earlier to read the Daily Telegraph's excellent news coverage and deliberately ignore the Tory politics. ///

No get it right he did not say 'politics', that would be perfectly understandable, if not a little blinked.

What he actually said was 'Propaganda', now that is where the bigotry kicks in.
No I don;t believe the camera never lies AOG - but I like to think the police don't lie, and they have arrested this woman, so they msut believe the recording to be true, one would assume.

/// so they msut believe the recording to be true, one would assume. ///

No Andy I presume the woman was arrested due to a complaint made against her and not on the evidence of a YouTube clip.

If the Police decide to charge her and the CPS sends her for trial, then surely it is up to legal authorities to decide if a YouTube clip is admissible evidence in a court of law?
