I have recently purchased a complete shower riser kit, but the new narrow bore hose (although it seems to fit to my Redring electric shower unit) leaks terribly, but the wide bore hose (which does not leak) does not fit into the hole where the shower head goes. Is there a difference between double interlock hoses and others? Any helpful suggestions extremely welcome - am running out of money & enthusiasm!!

Leaks out of the joint ? Can you not stuff the screw thread with PTFE tape ? Or gunk it up with plumbers' mait, or something ?

Or are we talking totally different sizes here ?
Question Author
It doesn't appear to be the joint as that stays dry, but it's hard to tell. When I switch the shower on, water just seems to run down the side of the hose - not sure if that is what's happening but that's what it looks like.
Have you lost the o ring seal from the end of the hose?
Sounds like the uppermost connection to me. Unlikely to be a split/hole in the hose itself. And not a happy situation if that is the entrance to the inside of the electric shower ! Check it really is the rigth size. Then check for the ring as johnk suggested, and having proven that is there, consider ways to gum it up. A plumbing supply shop can probably advise.

Yes, I still have the 'O' ring, and both hoses fit on the thing on the electric shower itself. Would a double interlock hose make a difference?
You are missing a seal .. or it's not done up correctly (providing thread is the same)

When you say seal Albags, do you mean the washer? 'Cos both hoses have those. When I say wide bore hose I'm not sure I know what I am talking about!!! My previous hose is 55mm circumference (not diameter), doesn't leak but won't fit in the slidey shower head holder. The new one is approx 44mm circumference and leaks. BUT the screw-on bit is the same size on both hoses.
Are you sure the thread is engaged correctly then?
Is the head plasic? The only other thing I have seen is when the head is cracked on the seam.
Question Author
The thread is engaged properly - it fits quite snugly, that's why I can't understand the leak, when my old one is fine. I would use the old one, but it won't fit thro' the gap on the slidey thing on the new riser, and the old riser is a lot thinner or I could use the slidey thing off the old one! Confused? I am - my brain is mashed!!
By the head, I'm thinking you mean the screwy on bit that fits on my shower? If so, it is metal (on both hoses).
It's a bodge, but you could take the old washer out and try two washers in the new fitting. It sounds like the thread is reaching its end before tightening the washer.

I did try that builder - took the washer from the old hose and put it on the new hose which has an integral washer, tightened it up and still water running down the outside of the hose - had to put a towel under it there was that much water - with or without the other washer.

Can I just say I really appreciate all the answers I've had from Old geezer, Albags and builder. It helps when yer a woman on yer own. x
