My brother and I have been working on our family tree and have been using www,1901 censusonline.com which is owned by Genes Reunited. We keep buying credits at £5 a time and have spent £35 already. Is there a site anyone can recommend that is as good but cheaper? Thanks.

Ancestry.co.uk often has a 14 day free trial......have a look. They have access to *all* the censuses.

Thanks, jackthehat. I will give that a go.
The best site overall for genealogy is ancestry.co.uk. Annual subscriptions vary as to the amount of information you wish to access, the most expensive being the Worldwide Membership which I think is about £150 a year. You can pay monthly for this by direct debit, and I believe only pay for the months you actually use (dotty does this). My membership is one tier down from that so is only for the UK, and I think is about £90 a year.
It does not have details of the 1911 census but if you want look-ups for that either me or someone else on here will do look-ups for you.

That sounds like it would save us money over the year. We spent £35 in a month! Thanks for the offer for 1911 census entries.
It is quite good diana............it has all the censuses (as Jack says) from 1841 to 1901, births, deaths, and marriages from 1837 to 2005, quite a few parish records, and a lot of WW1 military records.
You can also build your tree on the site.

Thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know how we get on. :)
You should be quite lucky............

Are there many 'Hoohars' in the records ? :o)
lol Jack, probably but with several spellings.
Happy to help with look ups from ancestry if you need help ... it is the bets place to look - but there is also www.freebmd.org.uk which is free and gives birth, deaths and marriage records where they are transcribed ..... so this can be useful too - but you will always need the census for verification and more info from a social history perspective. Good luck. And shout if you need help - lots of people on here will lend a hand.
If yiu can get to a library, then you can search Ancestry, and Find my Past for free.
