Does anyone know of a way to stop videos that are embedded into pages playing automatically? I use Firefox and have looked in the options but can't find any settings related to this.

There's also a "media.autoplay.enabled" setting in about:config which may help if set to false.

Thanks Chuck.
Noooooo ..

You need Flashblock. Used it for a few years now. Add the icon to the top bar so you can switch off/on or leave on auto. There is a whitelist or everything can be blocked ..It's great.

If content blocked (as in auto setting) an arrow appears over the video placeholder .. you just click it to play.
If site is in whitelist, it works as normal.

Does that work on all videos AlBags? I am sick to death of going to certain news sites and having advert and news report videos scare the bejesus out of me by autoplaying.
Yes .. ALL.
There are a few weird sites that use different player .. but few and far between.
Just try the addon .. : )
If you drag the icon onto the toolbar .. you can switch on and off at will, too.

I tried the two options from Chuck, the first one didn't seem to block the videos on many sites I used as they are not always Youtube ones, the second option of Chuck's did nothing at all.
I have installed the one you linked to AlBags and so far so good.
Thanks.
