Re my Brown and Mild question

Hi all,
Regarding my previous question about Brown and Mild where I got some great answers, my dad was talking about it again and said he used to drink Whatneys (sp?)
Does anyone know if this is still around?

Watneys was a British brewery that peaked in the 1930s and merged with Grand Metropolitan in 1972. The brand was closed in 1979. Grand Met later merged with Guinness in 1997 to form Diageo. Watneys beers - Special Bitter, Red Barrel, Mild, Light and Brown Ales are no longer brewed under that name.
You can still buy brown ale, and there are some pubs, normally those with micro-breweries, that still sell mild. I hope you can find one for your dad.
One of the best bits about a brown and mild (or a light and bitter) was that the barman would get a pint glass and put the mild in first. It was always more than half a pint and you were then passed the brown ale to pour into the draught beer. On a good day, you'd get a pint and a quarter.
Then bloody Weights and Measures got involved and started prosecuting pubs for serving MORE than you were paying for!!!

Methyl as per my previous post when me and my dad were talking about old times as he likes to do from time to time (especially after a beer or glass of wine lol) He started talking about being a young lad drinking Brown and Mild which he used to drink with his dad. Sadly both his parents who he adored died before I was born so I thought I'd get him some Brown and Mild to give him a 'blast from the past'
Last night we were discussing wines to buy for a friend for their birthday when he asked me to look up Brown Ale but I could only find Newcastle Brown and he said that was the wrong one, that when he was young he used to drink Watneys so that's why I wanted to see if it was still around.
