Up until a few weeks ago my Sister-in-Law was using here laptop to access the internet via a 'dial-up- connection and a USB Modem.(Conextant Zoom)

I connected-up BT Broadband and thought that I had removed completely the programme in use for the Modem. However, whilst I deleted relevant entries in the Control Panel from 'Programmes/Features' & 'Phone/Modem', there is still appearing an on-screen message which indicates that an unauthorised programme is endeavouring to perform on the laptop.(A click on 'view details' indicates it's Conexant.

Ok, it's no problem to click it out each time , but I do find it annoying that one has to. Accordingly, I shall appreciate some comments on the issue concerned.

Incidentally the laptop is a 'Compaq' and operates on Windows7 with Firefox as the default Browser.

Did you find Conexant entry in Add/Remove programs?
Tried looking at Internet Options/Connections in IE browser or Control Panel .. to see what's in there?

Hi Al.......'Programmes & Features 'took me into 'Add/Remove' and I deleted USB Modem/Conexant. However, I didn't think about looking in 'Internet Options' but will do so when I call at S-i-L's house, within the next few days.

Thanks....Ron.
No problem!
It occurs to me that a program which uses a dial-up connection might also have changed the connection settings within Internet Explorer. To check, open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. Check that 'Never dial a connection is selected'. If it isn't, select it and then click on 'Apply' and 'OK'.

Good evening Chris.......Both you and Al have made reference to IE which is in the Laptop but is never really used, because Firefox is the default Browser.
However,as it is no doubt possible that IE could be causing the problem, I'll certainly have a look in that direction.

What I find strange is that my own computer (HP Pavilion slimline) was originally programmed for Conexant and, although it's still loaded in my machine, I have never had the message which S-i-l is getting. IE is still in my comp but, same as S-i-L, I use Firefox as the default Browser but operate on Windows Vista which I prefer to Windows 7.
Strange animals are Computers.!!

Cheers....Ron.
