Blackpool - what a dump!

On my way to my actual holiday destination, I called in at Blackpool for an afternoon, remembering childhood memories of cockle stalls, busy beach, punch and judy, local ice cream, lots to do. I found a run-down town with nothing but sleaze and tackiness. Along the prom are only tacky gift shops, amusement aracades and rowdy pubs. The Tower and the Pleasure Beach are a rip-off and the actual beach itself was dead when I was there.
Any similar experiences, anyone?

I went there a few years ago. Wouldn't bother again. It's a sh!thole.
Sever years ago we went for a few days primarily to see the lights - my daughter was horrified by the whole place, the tackiness, drinking, noise, mess, run down b and b, etc. - she has vowed never to go anywhere near the place again, and the same goes for the rest of us.
They need to make immense effort to revive the place if they want to bring it back to a seaside resort instead of a kiss-me-quick stag night type of place, over run with drinkers swaying all over the place into the small hours. I think they have a lost cause.
The last time we went to Blackpool (and the ONLY time) was 1968 (for our 20th Wedding Anniversary).
It was a dump then too, so obviously things haven't changed much, just the type of "dump".
Try visiting the streets behind the seafront. Things are pretty desperate there too. The result is some of the cheapest shopping in Britain.
I went there - once. We kept driving!
I live quite close to Blackpool and I avoid the place like the plague! I do most of my shopping in Preston nowadays.

Strangely there have been quite a few large fires in derelict/abandoned hotels etc recently in Blackpool.Maybe the residents are trying to raze it to the ground so that something better can be buit in it's place.lol
jock,
You're trying to recapture the experiences that excited you through a childs eyes. You'll never get that back. Yes it's changed, entertainment/ lifestyle/ people have changed.
Well no mercy and me will be riding on the big one there next year
