The story was that he was going to be allowed to 'Retire' and keep his huge severence package, but the story was so big and the impact too great that it couldn't be covered up. He's going to lose this but you can bet that he will get some clever lawyer to appeal against this. Another example of Senior Civil Servants incompitence.

i'm confused. open-door immigration is government policy isn't it? so why are they seeking to make an example of this guy?
When funds are tight services suffer. Who would want to wait hours to get through passport control?
Why make him a scapegoat when it's really the government that's to blame.
workload rises but staff numbers don't, so a boss tries to find a way to keep the system going. Why is he to blame?

I wonder if the outcome of the inquiry will ever be made public...?
I have to agree with Sandy and Jno. I work for the UKBA and since many units have shut down our workload has trebled.

?
FAO Tiggerblue - just by the way really but speaking of staff cuts etc, why is it that on the various TV documentaries concerning stuff like "nothing to declare" the officers dealing with the suspected and actual smugglers are now UKBA and no longer Customs officers - have functions between the two now been merged ??
Yes. See this:

http://webarchive.nat...ba.homeoffice.gov.uk/

It says “We manage border control for the UK, enforcing immigration and customs regulations...”
I didn't actually realise they had done Gladeian. I deal with the After Entry cases and haven't taken much notice of the On Entry side.

Thanks for that New Judge.
looks like it wasn't a rogue civil servant after all, just a rogue home secretary

Seems like he has just climbed onto the clothes line:

Stand by for details of the claim for "constructive dismissal".
