My daughter asked me how to clean the black metal baking tray that goes into her microwave/oven. It is black with black encrusted volcanic eruptions all over it from having been used agan and again with the previous stuff not haveing been removed. She suggested bleach. I said no but there is probably a better way using some sort of washing soda, bicarbonate of soda or soda crystals. I don't know if they differ from each other. I would probably replace it if she could.

I used a really good oven cleaner a few weeks ago. You put the racks/trays in a bag.
I can't remember what it was called, and I'm not at home so can't have a look.
I will post later with the name. It was VERY good! :-)
Soak in a strong solution of biological detergent solution.
Scrape it off with a chisel and then use a brillo pad.

She's not putting food directly onto it is she? Or is it used to catch spills?
Soak overnight in washing up liquid.
I used one I think its called Oven Mate.. Its an orange packet.. you put the tray in a bag with this liquid and it is REALLY good!!!!

Thanks everyone and I will look out for your product Flip.
Nosha, you little star... that's it.. :-)

Tell your daughter to give it a go, Star, it's brilliant stuff!
Thanks Flip.... It truly is brilliant stuff.. I am now a bit obsessed with it!
No need to scrub or rub!!!!
The bag stuff is Oven Pride. I found it good for the racks but it didn`t do a lot for my grill pan or oven tray.
It's great isn't it. To be honest, I've always been a bit lazy when it comes to cleaning the oven. I absolutely hate it!
My Mum gave me some of this stuff though, and I couldn't believe what a difference it made and, as you say, minimal effort! :-)
I have also used this product nosha and found it excellent cost about £3-£4 and worth every penny, cleans inside cooker, racks and I also did the top racks on the burners.
Apologies... 237SJ is right.. OVEN PRIDE
Great stuff!!!
Lol. I didn't have a clue about the name... just that bright Orange packet!
Metal tray? Microwave? That's a no-no!
Use the cheapest biological washing powder you can find (for clothes), dissolve in very hot water and leave tray to soak overnight. The dirt will lift off, I promise.

Also very good for cleaning ceramic and stainless steel sinks - sprinkle on neat and rub.
