An SGO gives you much more control over the child until he or she is 16. A residence order allows the child to reside with you but you will normally apply for a parental responsibility order at the same time. An SGO is preferable because you have more control and do not risk anyone else with PR taking the child away. You really need to get specialist family law advice.
