Just thinking about next years hol and would like to have a villa with a private pool. We will be going early May so it needs to be somewhere warm enough and in a popular complex with no car needed. I've been looking at Playa de las Americas in Tenerife or anywhere really thats near to the beach and bars/restaurants etc. Can anyone suggest anything?

Playa de las Americas is hideously busy, not a place I'd choose, full of nightclubs. It will be more than warm in Tenerife in May - we tend to go end May and it's hot already down there at that time. Move a bit further along to Los Cristianos, or further up the coast to Fanabe or Los Gigantes - the beach at los Gigantes is small and black but it's a nice resort (although quite a long way to taxi from the airport). Transport by bus on the island is good, it's the way we always get about, if you want to go on days out. Make sure you go to Loro Park, little tigs will enjoy it!
I agree with boxy Tiggs, PLA isn't a place I would take small children?
We have booked a private Villa for next year in Portugal, in a place called Carveiro, it has all of the things you like but not the 'brashness' of PLAs
The weather is nice in May too, it's very rare you will get a private villa very near a beach though, the owners like their privacy, another place would be Benalmadena, although very "alive" on the main drag, the villa we have been in was really nice, I am not sure if you are able to give me a throw away email address on here, I am in touch with the owner and would be able to give you his contact, Benalmadena is on the Costa Del Sol xx
Bobbi, now there's a thought - anywhere along the coastal strip between Torremolinos and Fuengirola would be good. The beaches are excellent and transport on the local buses is very reliable and cheap. There are lots of places like water parks and plenty of things to do which can be managed without a car - and Torremolinos itself is only 15 mins by taxi from Malaga airport. You'd need to start looking seriously now though, Tiggs - we have already booked our hol for next September, people book up really early to get what they want.
again I am in full agreement here, with such a bad Summer behind us Tiggs, people are wanting to get away from the British weather,so you will need to move quick, I will see if I can get a link to the villa we stayed at in Benalmadena and as boxy said, it is right in the heart of everything and has some of the warmest weather in Europe
...and not so many hours flying time as the Canaries, either. Gatwick-Malage = 2.5 hours, Gatwick-Tenerife is nearer 4 hours in the air.

here's that link Tiggs, it depends on your budget of course, there was six adults in our stay, and a child, we payed between 3 couples
Good luck xx

Thanks, we went to Benelmedena last year and it was a lovely resort. Dont know if I want to return so soon though? I thought of Tenerife as we've been to Majorca in May/June time and weather wasnt too good. I will have a look at that link though, thanks again.
Also when I say PLA, I guess I mean anywhere near there and also LC as we defo wont be going to the nightclubs lol. Have been there and done that! Do like to stay close ish to the action though (restaurants/family bars etc) but not so close that it's noisy.
I got a fabulous villa with a private pool in Lanzarote last year (from owners direct site). It wasn't central to the shops & pubs, but for 3-4 Euros in a taxi (taxi rank behind the Villa) they could take you into town. Or you could walk, their was a beautiful walk (a long one though) which would take you past the beach and into town, passing many lovely places along the way. It was a 3 bed, with all mod-con facilities and it cost £600 for 10 days - very reasonable I thought at the height of Aug? also there was a supermarket & snackbar across the road if you didn't fancy going out. If you want details give me your email add & I'll send you owners number & photos if you wish.
