It will probably be very expensive. Check the internet site of the airline you will be using - but it's very common for excess baggage to cost at least 4 per kilo.
Many years ago, I attended a conference in Adelaide and arrived back at the airport with lots of books. Quantas tried to charge me an excess baggage fee which was roughly the same as the cost of the return flight to Australia! The way it was calculated was at 1% of the single first class fare for each kg of excess baggage. Since Quantas are currently quoting fares between 6822.20 and 7220.10 as the single first class fare from Heathrow to Sydney, this means that they might try to sting you for between 68.22 and 72.20 per kg!!!

Have you considered sending your "excess" baggage as freight either by air or sea.
What really irritates me is the way they charge for excess baggage regardless of the weight of the passenger himself/herself. Why should a "big" 18-stone bloke with the correct weight of luggage be OK whereas an underweight person could be surcharged for having an extra few pounds of luggage?

Different airlines have different policies - some charge 1.5% of the full (i.e. more than you pay) economy ticket per kg. Sending baggage unaccompanied from the airport is expensive - probably in the region of 15-20 pounds per kilo as it is a captive market. Get quotes from a freight forwarder ahead of time.

If someone is taking you to the airport, pack suitcases in order of priority (eg everyone's basic clothes etc in the first two, then less immediate items such as baked beans in the last case). Try and blag as much over your limit as possible and let your friend take the unsucessful cases back to be collected next time or sent unaccompanied.
