One way would be to save it as a screen dump. Import it into a program such as Photoshop or the free Faststone or Picassa and save as a .jpg.
Then you should be able to use it ok.
alt + prtscrn
Load into paint
crop to desired area
save and import as a picture

You could however just save the map to "my maps" and provide a link in the document (assuming you make it public, or share it with the recipients email addresses).
This program is brilliant

Just follow the instructions and you can paste it into word

Hope that helps.
If you have Vista or W7 there is a built in sniping tool (search for "snip")

This allows you to use the mouse to "frame" an area of the screen, then save it as a jpeg etc.

It can then be imported into another application like Word.
Ash VHG says. The Snippy program is the equivalent if you don't have Windows 7
Have you tried this
1:- Print screen and then paste it in MS paint.
2:- Save the file and import it in your word file.

just tried again, nothing!!
this reminds me of trying to get an avatar the 1st time, that also took ages.
if you just need to post a link for a particular location then find it in Google Maps, zoom in or out as you want, and click on the symbol at top right (looks like a link of a chain) and that will give you the URL for the map as it currently displayed.

e.g. I was displaying an area near the centre of Leicester (chosen at random) and here's the link for it http://maps.google.co...9345&t=m&z=13&vpsrc=6
