A friend (not very computer knowledgeable) has a new laptop, a few months old. Just phoned me to say it has been 'downloading updates for ages, last night and this morning'.

Is this normal and should he just leave it to get on with it? Or could there be a problem - if so what should he do?

I am not used to laptops and I still run Windows XP whereas his is Windows 7 (I think) so finding it a bit difficult to advise him.
