What on earth are these giant worms in my garden?

Recently i've been waking up to find the gardens earth turned over which doesn't sound like a bad think but it is when it includes all my veg and flowers.
I awoke yesterday to find the earth still churning and got the rake and started turning the earth over expecting to find a mole or moles but instead i found giant albino worms the girth of a cucumber and roughly as long as my arm with no eyes and a mouth very similar to a ring worms.
Does anyone have any idea what these are as i must have hundreds under my garden and how the blazes did they get under my garden? (I have a large cemetery at the foot of my garden if that has any relevance)

A part of me says "yes they're harmless" pusskin, but the greater (and meaner) part of me thinks "filling the site with nonsense and crap for the sake of it".
