Laser 'energy' is light it is prdoced by a processes called stimulated emission which involves exciting atoms or molecules so they all emmit light at the same time. This produces light of one wavelength and is usualled produced as a focused beam. Efficiencies are very low generally and it is the narrow wavelengths and the tight focusing that are the most usefull factors.
LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

most of it's energy is heat, about 95%. They used to be expensive when they used ruby lasers, but now they use cheaper ones. This is why u can't make hand held ones (like in the movies that slice through people)without cold fusion. U can make ur own cheap laser by getting some strawberry jelly a piece of card with a hole in, and a flash from a camera. this makes the emissions and you get a flash of red laser.
