The second one is Pallia.
The first one's Medle -an old spelling of Meddle.

Try definition = goddess = PALLAS
Pall = Curtain or cloak
As = Norse God
...THRAVE, not THRIVE, for 4d, will give you your PALLAS rather than PALLIA for 14a.
