Mrs Neverwin thats me went to bingo last night and did not win, tomorrow early start going on a day trip to Boulogne, the rate I got for euros at the Post Office was abysmal but I only changed enough to buy a decent meal once there anything else can go on the credit card, we are going to the hypermarket first but is it worth buying anything these days , if so what ?we dont smoke in our house but like a tipple but its probably the same price here ?

thanks to both, will let you know if I buy anything.

Washing powder is still cheaper in the French supermarkets than it is over here. Beer and wine is no longer much different unless you go to a hypermarket, the special offers in our own supermarkets are often a better deal Cigs are not much cheaper either. Re the euro rate - we tend to think of it as 1:1 these days, then we get a few coppers back.
I did that once. Back in the late 70's when booze cruises first started. We all got smashed on the overnight bus and all we saw of Boulogne was the inside of a cafe where we slept off our hangovers all morning, and some disgusting unisex toilets where we had to squat over a smelly hole.

I'm sure things have changed since then ;-)
where do you sail from, dee sa? We don't sail to Boulogne from Dover any more.
if you are wedging it on the credit card just be aware of the exchange rates, fees and charges that they levy on you for spending abroad. sometimes it costs more to buy abroad when you factor these in.

also, if you are using a cc abroad, you might want to tell your cc company beforehand otherwise it might be blocked as irregular spending habit.

i did a trip to bolougne in the 70s as well, haven't been since they stopped the boats going direct.

Local coach @ 6.30am to Dover then on the boat to Calais and coach to Boulogne they will take you on to hypermarket if you want to go and then drop you back in Boulogne.
I do tell the cc company if going on long haul trips but not for a day trip and to be quite honest if its the same price as home its not worth all the effort of bringing it back.I have changed £38 for 40 euros and that should get me a decent lunch and a few glasses of wine.Lets hope it doesnt rain.
Wave as you go past, Dee - the sea was pretty flat today, lovely and sunshiny. Have a good crossing there and back!
