I am finding it difficult to park near my place of work. I have noticed a cul de sac with derelict houses close to town The yellow lines are broken all over the roads there, and have no marked ends as they should have! Am I in my right to park in this area? As I see it they are not solid complete yellow lines at all. Thanks in advance.

No one knows the answer on answer bank then?//

It would appear to me that you have had your answer several times.

Ron.
There's another similar thread from 6 six years (and plenty on the internet if you google, I just have) - the answer's still no. http://www.theanswerb...l/Question179390.html
Errrr, A worn yellow line is NOT enforceable! to be enforceable the line has to be continuous over it's entire length and has to be properly capped at the ends with a T bar.

That said, if you were to park on it I wouldn't be surprised if you did get a ticket or towed away and then you'd have to prove that the line were not enforceable which would be a lot of hassle and probably not worth the risk (unless you want to do it just to prove a point)
Can't you use public transport to get to work?

I used to drive to work up until a few years ago when our car park facility was changed to allow only disabled badge holders and those with medical issues to park. If I want to park anywhere near where I work I'd have to pay upwards of £8 per day.
Chuck, that earlier thread says that if there are breaks due to drains or wear or whatever, then the implicit intention of the continuous line is still there. It's been challenged though - but IMO it just isn't worth taking the risk.
Chuck is correct. If the solid lines are worn and broken with no proper ends the restrictions are not enforceable.

I will just add to Chuck's post that after being ticketed or towed the council will very quickly put new lines down, so it really would be a pointless exercise.

Look on the council's website and search for Off Street Parking Orders. This should tell you if the Order is still valid or has been revoked. If in doubt, phone the council to check.
There ar continuous yellow lines and there are interrupted yellow lines.......nothing to do with wear and tear , unless i have the question wrong.

Can one park on interrupted yellow lines was the simple question.

I have a certain sympathy with the OP.
You do have the question wrong, sqad.
Yellow lines can be double, solid single or broken single.

Itsme is referring to solid double yellow lines that have worn and not been maintained.
hc4361...right ....thanks.
At the end of the day, he will park there but will never come back and tell us the truth if he is fined!!

Thank you chuckfickens. At last answer! I had a feeling that continious lines in law must mean continious. I didnt think the law was a well if or maybe. Thanks again.

Just an update....Been parking on broken double yellow lines for a couple of weeks now. I have found out they are in an area that has been de commissioned. Having spoke to the local warden he confirmed that they are not able to ticket people in this area. Hey hey! Just thought all those who guessed or made opinions on the matter may like to know the facts. May be not though!!
Sorry boxtops, same link as you :) x
