Had a run out to Skipton & parked on one of a few car parks near the Castle, went to the pay machine Bloody hell, £2.70 2hrs, then I started to look at the full board & the prices, the Coaches Its no wonder there was only 2 on the park, to bring the people in do you think the car parking charges should be reduced on the W/End to draw in the people?

Im the manager of a train station and toc i work for advertise very cheap train tickets and yet neglect to mention a days parking at the station is £12.........naughty naughty.
Swanage in Dorset is just as bad. It cost me nearly £6.50 to park there in the summer - I should have got the Park & Ride!
Coach parking should be free - everywhere.

It would encourage tourism and encourage people to take a bus trip over a car journey. I think some incentivise the tour operators to go there - obviously not Skipton. A nice little place but when I stayed there I didn't bother with the castle. Did I miss anything TWR?
It is a growing sad fact of life that, the motor car has become the lynchpin to raising money for councils and government and insurance companies; I can remember when you only had to worry about getting ripped off by the garages. So they have no choice as the councils have run-speed-cameras-into-the-ground, as well as motorists rebelling against clamping and traffic wardens.

I moved from Essex to Rushden in January. Where I was had high charges during the week, but free on Sundays (and Saturdays in December). Here though it is all free - free I tell you!!!
£12, yeannow? - parking at our railway station is £4.90 for the day.
I used to park outside a bookshop in London where I shopped, until they put the price up to £1 for 20 minutes - that's £6 for 2 hours, and that was five years ago.

Bad luck for the bookshop, that's why people buy from Amazon.

Hi Maidup, if you are into walking Skipton & the surrounding area are well worth a weekend, Skipton has the Leed's / Liverpool canal & plenty of walking, cafes & are good in price, there is a place called Bolton Abbey thats a good day out.
