the song actually goes 'be young, be follish, but be happy.'  I googled that and apparently it's by Sonia, so the advert version is probably a cover.  Sorry i can't tell you which advert it is.
It was originally recorded by the Tams in 1968.  I used to dance to it at Northern Soul discos many years ago.
Me too cheesefreak, wish I could still dance like that now!!  Great song - the original that is - the less said about Sonia the better.
Yes  the Tams -doesn't it make you feel all young and springish - get my aching joints up and dance!!!
This is well freaky, but whilst I was reading your question the advert came on!!! It's on the Persil ad :o)
Come on Robinia and lecheekyworm - let's pretend we're young again and show them how to really dance!!  I've heard it so many times on TV lately, yet I didn't realise it was the Persil advert.  The song transcends the product!
It's a great song and it was sung by The Tams, of "Hey Girl, Don't Bother Me" fame and was in the charts in March 1970. Accroding to the Guinness Book of Hit Singles, amazingly only getting to number 32.

I must admit is a delightful song, used in the Persil commercials recently, although I think that it has been used in a dozen commercials before this. It's almost one of the "sing along with the tune" songs.
If you haven't got a answer already, thats the correct name, 'Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy', and its by the 'The Tams'. Best Regards, Madeline xxx.
