Hi, I'm running IE8 on an XP machine. It's a six year old Dell and has never given me a problem. Recently it has started running slowly intermittently. If I open Task Manager and look at the list of processes running there are often fiver or six lots of iexplore.exe gong, many of them well over 100,000 k. On occasion, I've seen over 500,000 k. This can't be normal, surely? The websites I use most often are the BBC, Facebook and, of course, The Answerbank.

Thanks for your time.

Open any explorer window, click on the tools menu > folder options > click the view tab, scroll down the list and fine "launch folder windows in a separate process" and make sure it's not ticked.

If it was already unticked then I'd suggest a full scan with malwarebytes as it could be malware pretending to be explorer.exe
Opppps.... misread that, you said iexplore, not explorer

It's normal to see multiple iexplore.exe in IE8 as each tab runs in its own process (to a point) for crash resilience (if one tab crashes it doesn't quite all of them)
gawd I'm going to give up typing today!

if one tab crashes it doesn't quit all of them

Thanks Chuck. So it's just that there's a lot of activity on these sites then, I assume?
