While it must be a time of rejoicing for the individual students and their families, do the rest of the nation wish to see students (mostly girls) jumping up and down, squealing and waving their result papers in the air?

Can't see one on any of the newspapers.
yup they've always had kids at school and consequently it's a news story every year.

However speaking as a parent with an 18 year old looking for University entrance this year - having endless news stories on the subject was really stressfull
it's nice to celebrate surely, so what if they are shouting, its with happiness, not rioting, or looting.
It was very noticeable that most of the successful students had coloured faces. Nothing wrong with that but could it be our future leaders will be black and the new slaves of the working class will be the white underachievers.
Absolutely our thoughts entirely!! We are really FED UP with seeing all the jubilation and celebrations of people we don't know ....... is this news? In my day only my family and friends got to know about my GCE results.....

i take it you don't go out much then if you can't face seeing other people being happy.

Since it is you who has introduced colour into the debate.

What are you actually saying then, if the blacks ever get into power they will make slaves out of the white working classes?

What a disgusting thing to imply.
The biggest scandal of this year's exams results is that it is the 24th year in succession that results have improved.

Some people will have us believe it is due to better teaching and/or brighter kids and/or any other number of reasons.

The fact is (according to my sister who has been teaching for 30 years) that the exams have become increasingly easier plus there are now lots of 'soft' subjects to choose from.

Apparently there is a yawning difference between the old 'O' Level and today's GCSEs.

Kids are as bright as they have ever been, and I don't doubt for a second they put in an incredible amount of hard work, but the current education system is letting them down - the exams aren't testing enough to sort the wheat from the chaff.

ANKOU - I have no objection to seeing people happy at all - I am glad for them. I'm just complaining that it has taken over every news bulletin recently and has become quite boring now - they have flogged the subject to death ....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!
