Thanks to all you that answered yesterday. But I need more help.....
I've typed out a message but when I press send, nothing happens?
What am I doing wrong?

In your list of friends, select the person you want and then at the top right of their page is an option to send a message.Click there and type into box and send.

Thanks for that, so I send a messge from their page, not my home page?
Yesterday I was told that if I click on the speech bubble at the top left, that is what to do?
I've clicked on the speech bubble, put the persons name in & typed the message, so have I got to this this on THEIR page?

It's really very simple. In the search box look for the friend you want to send a message to. Their page will come up, and at the top you will see the option tosend a message to them. Click on that, type the message, and press send (or it may have reply). Job done

so can I not just send a message to someone who I'm trying to contact & not messaged before or even added as a ""friend"?

you can message anyone who hasn't blocked you
