Is it possible to map a remote computers drives over the internet without using rdp ?

I can rdp to my home machine via it`s dns name but have been unsuccessful in mapping any drives using the following format \\comp dns name\share name.

All relevant drives have been shared on my local workgroup and can be mapped from the internal network.

It's possible, but a huge security risk! (you'd have to port forward/ firewall exclude port 139 and 137 (I think from memory)) but seriously do not open up windows shares over the internet.

Use a VPN!
OH or stick the computer with the shares in a DMZ would probably work too...

But seriously.... Don't do it!

apologies for the late response ! , tks for the info. I take your point from a security point of view and with hindsight maybe this would not be a good idea.
