presuming you are in England and there are no idividual restrictions on your area you can light a bonfire now. BUT you do need to be watching it and also ensure that its not annoying neighbours or blowing smoke across a road etc or you may find the fire service turn the hoses onto it.
Not it only illegal to have a "bonefire" if you are human. Dogs are allowed to have "bonefires" all the time.

The Spelling Police
For shame JOnnyboy. Josaphine was clearly using the original form of the wors, which alludes to the pagan saxon practice of burning bones for magical purposes and which has come down to our Christianised / politicised 'bonfire'.
Wasn't you Jo?

Oh..... I would like to say thankyou to Mosiac.xx :-)
Before pointing the finger at someone else, JonnyBoy should ensure his writing makes sense - "Not it only illegal...."?
"Not it only illegal" - JonnyBoy what's that supposed to mean?

You need to be far more careful with your own typing if you're going to persist with this bullying.
Sorry Jo, I don't know whether its legal to have a bonfire, but we all have them where we live. We tend to avoid weekend daytimes and choose a time when the wind is blowing away from the neighbours.
Being practical, you may find you have local byelaws that state when you can burn stuff. Try your council's website - rule of thumb, do it after dark....make sure nobody's got washing out.....confine the fire in a metal bin so no chance of it getting out out control - try to minimise smoke, and don't burn plastics etc.
Personally I love the smell of burning wood.

Thankyou for those who gave nice posts, I did go and knock on peoples doors down the street to check, They were all very nice about it, But it started to drizzle and the BONFIRE would not catch light, So we are going to leave it till tomorrow, Council have told her if it is not cleared by friday then they would serve her with an Eviction notice, This is a woman who had breast cancer and on chemo and was not up to doing the maintance on her garden, but She has now got the all clear, But is now very worried. They contacted her tuesday to tell her that they would be serving the notice friday. Three days notice!!!
Flippin heck - wouldn't you think they'd have more to worry about? And if a neighbour reported the overgrown garden then shame on them. Be nice if they could rally round and give her a hand with it wouldn't it?

I hope you get it sorted and she can stop worrying.
Question Author
Yep maidup..best bit is it was the Neighbour who reported her, and she is god daughter to the woman with the garden, If she had a problem with the fencing and frightened that her dog would get through to the children she looked after, ( child minder )wouldn't you have said something. instead of going straight to the council.
