Anyone with EDF and paying by direct debit?

If so, did you know that you will only be getting a bill every six months now?

I queried not receiving a bill since March and was told that because the system changed in March I probably won't get a bill until next Year!!

They do say if you send them a reading they will send a bill but my meter is in a cupboard at the bottom of landing stairs and you have to crawl into it!

No, I didn't know that. Got my quarterly bill last month. Better re-read it and see if it mentions it.

They don't seem to bad. Apart from the above, I have always found Customer Service good.

We have just had our quarterly bill in August. This sounds strange to me. Ring them up if I were you!
I submit my readings on line, but the meter reader came yesterday and told me they are only reading meters once a year now, and I think I remember a letter telling me that bills would only be sent out yearly if you pay by Direct Debit, they are so "Green" they're cabbage looking! 1. My son worked in their Pensions Dept. for 21 years but has now been Tupe'd over and started on 1st Aug. to UK Power Networks and EDF are outsourcing their Pension Department. Although flaming BT, charge nearly £5 just or a paper bill every quarter and now charge for 1471. Bit of a liberty, that, don't you think? It can't cost that much for a bit of paper and to press a send button!
My particular gripe was with BT. A few years ago I was horrified to see itemised on my bill "Payment process charge - £4.80). Shorn of the terminology, they were charging me that amount for the privilege of paying them what I owed them in the first place. I immediately complained and was told that I could avoid that charge by paying by monthly direct debit, which I did, reluctantly. At least with phone bills they are up to date and any adjustments to the monthly payments are swiftly made. Such cannot be said of the other utility companies. Ten years ago I was quite happy paying £20 per month to the North Eastern Electricity Board (can't sodding remember what they are called now, NPower, perhaps?) Anyway, one day I got a letter to the effect that as my meter had not been read for two years my consumption had exceeded their forecast and that my monthly payment would be increased from £20 to £150 to cover the shortfall. Since then I have religiously read my meter every three months and phoned in the reading.
Have just received my EDF bill and it looks to me like it's going to be only 1 bill per year. Extract:

Maxim, that's just your "annual review" bill - the one you get on the anniversary of joining them (i.e every 4th quarter). It looks at what you used over the previous 12 months and predicts what you will use over the coming 12 months. That's usuially the point at which they tell you your DD is going up!!
we have been with edf for a while and I have recently changed to their online saver account, which makes this option the cheapest for me in our area. If the bills come less frequently it is easy just to go on line and look or phone cust. services.
