I saw a slow worm in the garden today. I dont know who moved faster, me or the slowworm. He just dissappeared into half an inch of lawn.

Well, I am almost positive it was one. It was the same colour as a worm, but about 9 inches long. It belted into next doors garden.
I love slow worms sadly I have not seen one for a while. They are usually a greeny brown or copper colour with a beautiful sheen.

and here, too !!
I saw two recently while dismantling a shed, we don't see them like we used to but then again we don't go out looking for them like we used to.
Love to see one, but havent yet. Are they more common in certain parts of the country?
Although they can be found as far north as the Hebrides, they become more common the further south and east you go on the UK mainland
dear icg76 nice to read your comment my darling brother used to put spiders down my back as a kid I still hate them 50 years later.Brothers who needs them !!! not untill they get older and have nice mates.
I see one occasionally and they disappear quickly. Can't help wondering why they are called 'slow' worms!
It come from Old English 'slaw', meaning 'worm'. So it's really a ''worm-worm''!!
