Want to replace a double switch in the hall. One switch operates the light in the porch (simple off/on). The other is for one end of a two-way switch in the hall itself. What do I need - a two-way, 3-gang? Thanks for any help.

You need a 2 gang (2 switches in one) 2-way switch like this;

Note down/take photo of connections in existing switch BEFORE you remove them! Make sure you turn off the power to that circuit and CHECK it is dead BEFORE you do anything.

Handy lighting wiring diagrams here;

Thanks, both. Existing switch has 6 "holes", 5 of which are in use. That's what made me think I needed a 3-gang ...
It is illegal to replace a light switch unless your a registered electrician in this day and age apparently. I don't know if that's true or not. If so I guess if anything goes wrong the insurance won't pay out knowing it was done illegaly!
Not true.

Anyway, back to two switches on the front and six "holes" on the back. What type does that make it? Thanks again.
2-way 2-gang.

You can always use a 2-way for a 1-way fitting. That's why manufacturers all make just 2-way now.
A two-way switch has three contacts so a 2-gang 2-way switch will have 6.
One will only be used as a simple switch (2 contacts) so 5 of the six will be used.
I love un-complicated answers.

Thanks again to all. Talk about complicated ... forgot to mention that 2 of the six holes are "bridged" across ...! Keep taking the tablets (or the tabloids, as the papers might say)!
That's just to transfer the 'common' live across to the other gang.
That's the 'done' thing.
