I have an F reg VW Scirocco, and when I get up to speed a very noticible judder sets up in the steering wheel. this judder comes and goes in quick succession and can be fairly severe. i have had the wheel balanced and both front wheel bearings were changed recently but the problem persists.Does anyone have a clue what this might be caused by?

Hi rd, this sound like the wheels are still not balanced correctly and they go in and out of synchonous unbalance as they are rotating at slighty different speeds due to normal wear etc...

Suggest you take the wheels for balancing to a diffferent garage or tyre place, preferably one with newish balancing machines.

Nice car.

A thought that springs to mind is that your actual wheels could be damaged. Balancing the tyres may have a lessening affect on this but would not cure the problem completely.Try swapping your wheels from front to back and vice versa and see if that makes any difference.

check the brake discs also, sometimes if they warp a wobble at certain speeds is possible,if there is a lip on the disc they are thinner, therefore, more prone to warping. It would be worth taking the wheels off again, and having a quick check that the hub faces are clean,to make sure the wheels are sitting correctly.

Hi

If the judder only appears at a certain speed (any faster and it goes) then it is definitly wheel balance related. If the judder gets worse with speed then it is an alignment problem (checking the hubs are clean as per BigDaddyCains answer or maybe tracking/geometry)

have yu changed yor tyres a friend of mine had the same prob had all the usual checks , balencing, barings, track rod ends, etc it turned out to be faulty tyres strange but true ..........

big daddy if the disks were warped it would wobble when braking
