Global financial meltdown
Countries on the verge of depression
Anarchy
Contagion of Revolutions and civil unrest
Increased famine
Increased earthquakes
Increased floods

Until very recently I was extremely sceptical about the prophecies of 2012 and the plague of preaching doom and gloom all over the internet. I honestly don't think that the world will end in some biblical cataclysm involving polar shifts or a Coronal Mass Ejection. But I now truly feel that as a planet we are on the cusp of something big. 2012 is significant in so many cultures and it seems very strange that we have had a increase in intensity of all of the above in such a short space of time, all leading up to this date. The frequency of these events and the fact that they are happening all at the same time is unprecedented in human history.

Watching the news today and seeing the footage of the aftermath of chaos in our country was, for me, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Whilst there is still a strong possibility we could be the creators of our own demise, I sincerely hope the humanity that remains prevents it from happening.

I actually dont see that at all, the world has always been a turbulent place
it's cyclical, we have been here before, and no doubt, once the dust settles, we will go back to our little lives, until the next eruption, of violence, earthquake, storm, who knows, as much as one says its all doom and gloom, it isn't always. My only concern is when London is at the forefront next year, and there will be millions more added into this melting pot, we don't see someone who comes along and puts us all in danger, i.e 7/7, 9/11, that is a scenrio i fear more than anything.
I am not certain the earth/governments can continue to handle 7 billion people let alone many billion more. We will pay a price as more and more green areas are gobbled up by "progress."

The other thing I have noticed is that there seems to be some sort of exponential speeding of my perception of time like we are in some sort of time warp. I don't know if that is true of a 5-year old waiting for Xmas but it
is surely evident with me today......perhaps due to my age?

What keeps flashing in my mind is that all things come to an end, western civilization, life as we know it, many successful civilizations have come and gone. Are we part of the evolution of Homo sapiens where there will be another species, will there be time to evolve? Or should we even think about it. I know my mind is rambling.......

The JWs will be loving this!
I have the same thinking. I just read about the solar storm and it's really making me think even deeper about what's about to happen to our planet. December 2012 is just right around the corner and I'm not too sure if I want to remember that date.
What is the significance of December 2012 please?
*simple answer*

the mayan calendar runs out in 2012, some people think it will be the end of the world

I'm not concerned about the imminent solar storm; Nasa scientists have confirmed that it is not expected to cause significant problems. Equally they have dismissed polar shifts and planets entering our solar system. I think Em10 and Nohorn have valid points. It concerns me that past civilisations have thrived and suddenly they exist no more.
I'm pessimistic enough to believe in 2012 propacy, but always thought it would be large meteor storm-not looking forward to the solar storm
