I met up with some friends today to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday. One of the group gave me a used bottle of body lotion that was half full(Or empty whichever way you look at it) with grubby finger marks all over the lid.As he frequents car boot sales I guess he bought it there.he is an older guy who has plenty of money so that wasn't the issue.I just feel if you can't give somrthing decent then don't bother or simply buy a nice little box of maltesers.I'm not materialistic but this has really hurt me and I feel belittled. How do I let him know how I feel about this?

Maybe he thought he was being funny. My OH once gave an old, greasy, toaster as a wedding present...

Pour it over him the next time you see him. He sounds like a complete &#*+-"***!

Thanks everyone for your input, feel better now I know you have had similar experiences or agree he is outta line.Ah well i recall the proverb..."We shall all be fables presently, keep cool:it will all be one a hundred years hence" and yes I have binned it,feel nauseous thinking who used it for what!yuk! On the good side have recieved some lovely, thoughtful gifts. On the down side..I'm gonna be 60 argh!!!
I'm with scotman on this
It could have been a second hand worn out vibrator, be grateful!!
You should have kept it and given it back to him as a Christmas present.
My ex MIL once bought her son a bottle of after shave for Christmas he had had a beard for years.
Is he the sort of friend who would buy you a grotty present for a joke and then give you something special on your birthday ?

No most decidely not...
A 'recycled' gift is something I would have no problem giving or receiving. But I would never consider giving an open bottle (or anything else) to anyone. There a lot of strange people around !
Pour the lotion into a plastic bag and return with a note; "thanks for the cute bottle but there was still some stuff in it so returning the content in case you were unaware that it was still half-full".
Hi Moiflan! I celebrated my 60th Birthday yesterday and I'm glad to say I didnt get any gifts like that. I had a wonderful time. Know what you mean about reaching the big 60 tho!!!!! Anyway, Happy Birthday to you x
Buy him a shower gel/ deodrant gift set for his next birthday and make sure you use half of each... or just go to poundland and get something naff!
