i've bought a samsung RV511 S02UK laptop with an i5480 processor in and a 5400rpm hard drive in it. would it cause any problems if i replaced the hard drive with a 7200rpm one.

Well you'd have to install windows on the new hard drive, but as long as you are able to do that (i.e. you have the windows DVD or are able to create them) then there would be no problems putting a faster drive in it.
