I had tonsilitus a few weeks ago followed by a touch of loosing my voice and chesty pains/cough... went to drs and was given penicilin. Then last monday the swollen tonsils were back but no sore throat. then after 2 days it was gone again. THEN on friday last week i was peeing blood and back to the Drs told i have cystitus to which im now on keflex for for a week. Saturday night i started with bad pains in each side of my face as in couldnt even touch the skin on the sides of my face it was hurting that much and last night/today i can now not open my mouth properly, eat or speak because of the pains and i have very swollen glands and sides of my face - the pain is like a throbbing and under my ear lobes into my jawline then into my neck and throat - i look like elephant woman! Yet i dont feel unwell? I thought it could be glandular fever but i have no other symptons just this swelling and pains in the face and neck

Any ideas? i cant be seen by my dr till tonight and im just wondering what it could be? My drs are pretty crap as well and normally just send me home with paracetamol so some suggestions to give to them might be a start! xx

Well....it COULD be glandular fever, but my money would be on mumps.

It may well take a blood test to sort this out.

can i still go to work? he gave me a sick note but told me i can go back if i want to :/ ?
I can't believe that the doctor told you that you can return to work.....but if he did...so be it.
Isn't mumps contagious and a little dangerous for men to catch it? or is that an old wives tale.
AYG.....very uncommon complication of mumps is orchitis (swollen testicles) in males which could lead to impotence or oophoritis (inflammation of the ovaries) in females leading to sterility.........both unusual.
AYG....sorry...it is contagious for about a week after the glands in the face become enlarged.
I thought the same ayg, remember it coming up when one of the lads at an old workplace had it suspected and we banned him from the office...just in case!
